Top Ten Tuesday (4): Top 10 Bookish Pet Peeves

This week's topic:
Top Ten Bookish Pet Peeves

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

My Top 10 Bookish Pet Peeves

1) What I hate the most is the stickers that bookstores use on sales! Most of the time the stickers end up on the front cover but there are cases where they are on the back cover and I can't read the synopsis! It's a challenge to try to get them off without damaging the book.

2) Books with bent covers, cracked spines, etc. I have a thing and I want my books to be in the best condition as possible. That's why I prefer hardcovers over paperbacks. They last longer. And don't me even get started about mass paperbacks where the spine cracks so easily. How am I supposed to read it and maintain it in a good condition?

3) Starting a series in paperback format and then getting the next one in hardcover because the paperback release is a year after the hardcover. I never understood this time difference.

4) People who judge a book without reading it first. Example: Twilight. There are a lot of people who really said nasty things to me just because I have read this series. You can't judge a person by the book he/she is reading more less the book itself. Pick it up, read it and then say your opinion on it. The movie has nothing to do with the book.

5) Instant love. I don't like when the romance between two characters starts right away. It isn't realistic. I prefer to be a built up of emotions between them before they run away into the sunset.

6) The so gorgeous/model like/god like and yada yada guy. The pattern is the same. In most YA books the love interested is that perfect creature that the heroine can't live without because he's so dazzling. I mean come on! Nobody is that perfect!

7) Books turned into movies, and their original covers get replaced by the movie poster.

8) Whiny characters. Enough said.

9) Book reviewers/bloggers that seem to love every single book they are reading. They don't everything they read and I would like to be able to their different opinions. When I see that I don't trust them on book suggestions. There is no way they like everything.

10) Messy bookshelves. I'm an organised/clean freak and I can't look at a bookshelf fulled with books all over the place. At least alphabetize them!

11) OK, so I have 11 pet peeves but I needed to add this. Authors trying to portrait teenage characters as those stupid and totally immature people so they can justify their actions. Just because they are young it doesn't mean they are immature. Many of them are very mature for their age.

I agree that instant love is getting annoying and so is judging a book before reading it

I know what you mean about book bloggers loving every book, but I kind of see that, if they really hated something, they might not want to spend the time thinking about it anymore, if you know what I mean? I, however, have no such problems in ranting about an awful book hehe.

My pet peeves are here :) http://devouringtexts.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-ten-tuesday_22.html

I love your list! We've got a few things in common, including the instant love, whiny characters and unrealistic (perfect) characters. Also I never realized the one with book reviewers/bloggers who like all their books. But I've seen this on a few lists and can see how it could definitely be annoying.

I agree with so much of your list. Your #1 is mine too! I didn't think of #7, but that totally bugs me too. I'll try to find the last copy with the original cover so I don't have to buy the one with the movie poster.

I agree with #7. I know publishers replace the old cover with the movie one to make more $ but the old covers are almost always better than the movie covers.

I agree, good answers, stop and see mine.

I love your list 4. Why should people judge a book when they've not read it????

Oh man, #7, I completely agree! There are been several occasions when I went to purchase a book, and made sure to buy a copy with the original cover, instead of the movie version. I love it when a movie causes people to pick up more books, but I wish that more people would appreciate the cover art as it was intended.
