HEX, A Witch And Angel Tale: Blog Tour and Giveaway

I'm participating in the blog tour of HEX, A Witch And Angel Tale by Ramona Wray. And today two of the three main characters in the book have agreed to an interview. SPOILERS in case you haven't read the book! You can find my REVIEW here.

Interview with Lily and Ryder.

Hello guys. Thank you for agreeing to this interview.

1. Lily, since we know about how you felt when you saw Ryder, this question is for him. What were your thoughts and feelings when you first saw Lily this time?

Honestly? I thought, “Wow! She’s never going to learn how to walk ...” Of course, she was a toddler at a time, out with her Mom. They were feeding the duckies in Central Park, and Lily’s feet kept wobbling, and she fell down a few times. Yeah, I sort of kept an eye on her, from a distance, before I made myself a part of her life.

2. Lily, you have always known your magic. Did you ever thought using it for your own benefit? Like getting a cute guy to like you? Of course this is before Ryder.

Nope, not really. That would’ve actually required me to notice boys and since they were always strictly hands-off, noticing them would’ve been pointless. Besides, I generally thought I had all I needed. Wacky Mom? Check. Wackier BFF? Check. Coolest Dad ever? Check. I mean, yeah, people ran scared when they saw me like I was a plague-carrier, but that couldn’t be helped. Overall, I was doing okay.

3. Lucian did something remarkable good for his nature, by sacrificing himself in order for you two to be free to love each other. How do you both feel about that?

Ryder: I have nothing but respect for a man who knows how to lose. And given his track record, he surprised me, I’ll tell you that.
Lily: I’m grateful. No way would I have thought him capable of something like that. I mean, Lucian? King Maneuverer and Master Puppeteer? Ha! And then he goes and does something like that. Very confusing. Incredibly selfless. I’ll always be grateful to him.

4. Lily, can you tell me what you do to cheer Ryder up on a bad day? The same goes for you Ryder. What do you do to cheer her up?

Lily: Ryder doesn’t have bad days, I swear to you. He’s super calm-cool-and-collected guy ALL the time! It’s almost annoying. He’s got this Yoda-esque serenity vibe about him. It’s like, since Lucian split, NOTHING can ruffle Ryder anymore. Which, now that I think about it, it’s not actually a bad thing.
Ryder: She does have some bad days, sometimes. As far as I can tell, two things work: kissing, or a piece of blueberry pie from Hopscotch, which is kind of embarrassing for me to admit. That my girlfriend puts an equals sign between a piece of pie and a kiss from me. But that’s Lily for you.

5. Ryder can you tell what you dislike the most and what you love the most about
her?

Dislike? No, there’s nothing I dislike about her. Except for, maybe, the pie thing I was just talking about, ha-ha. I love her bravery. I love that she’s selfless and caring. I love her sarcasm. I love how she fits in my arms.

6. Lily? How about you?

Okay, the only thing that bugs me is that shiny death trap he still rides every day.
Ryder: Here we go again ...
Lily: No, seriously. It’s not safe. And I don’t think he fully understands that he can DIE now. He can have an accident and he can actually DIE for the first time in four centuries. I’m always panicking about that. But I don’t know if that really qualifies as something I dislike about him. I mean, Ryder is Ryder, you know? MY
Ryder, tailor-made for me. The flame to my moth, the metal to my magnet. He’s perfect for me.

7. Can you describe me your typical day?

Ryder: Well, I still live in the McArthur cabin, from where I ride to her house every morning to take her to school. We stop by Hopscotch after classes, because Lily needs her ...
Lily: Pie, that’s right. I love my pie!
Ryder: Right, so then we’re off to Dave’s Garage, where she’s doing homework, while I work...
Lily: That’s what you think. I’m actually there to spy on your glorious manliness.
Ryder: No comments on that. We eat dinner with her Mom at night, then work on homework for another hour or two.
Lily: Huh! So that’s what you’re calling it?
Ryder: Alright, alright, there might be some additional non-homework stuff going on during that time. And then we say good night, but we usually end up speaking on the phone until she falls asleep. That’s pretty much how it goes, yeah.

8. How do you imagine your life from now on? Any future plans?

Lily: Well, we’re both waiting to hear from Cornell, because that’s where we want to go. After, we don’t really know yet. We talked about it and we both want to live in a small town. Maybe not Rosemound, because Rosemound is REALLY small, but somewhere nearby.
Ryder: And we want to be close to her parents because family is important. And Savannah and Nicholas are really great.

9. Can you describe each other in a few words? Or even through a song?

Ryder & Lily (speaking together) : Love of my life.

10. One last question. Did you tell Lily’s parents about your wedding? How did they react?

Ryder: Um ... ahem ... um, no. I think Nicholas would not be very happy about it. In fact I think violence would ensue.
Lily: We talked about it. I mean, we considered it, but then we decided to get married again. I don’t actually remember our first wedding what with it happening four CENTURIES ago and all. Plus, it would be kind of selfish not to let Mom and Dad see us get married. Not to mention J, who would totally kill us if we denied her the opportunity to parade ... whatever she’s thinking of wearing at our wedding.
Ryder: God helps us all.

my review here.

Like most girls at Rosemound High School, seventeen-year-old Lily Crane is acutely aware of Ryder Kingscott. Hands down the cutest guy in school, Ryder is cool, mysterious, and utterly untouchable-especially for Lily.
For when she touches someone, Lily instantly learns all about their lives. And while such a skill might seem nifty, in truth it is wrecking Lily's life.
So she socked when Ryder asks her out-and even more shocked to discover he has a rival. Lucian Bell is the gorgeous new kid who can't take his eyes off of Lily. Being pursued by two hotties should make a girl happy, but Lily is skeptical.
The boys act as if they've met before, hating each other with a passion that could only be rooted in a dark, dangerous past. A past full of terrible secrets. The kind of secrets that could get a girl killed.

Review
First of all I must say, when I got this book I had no idea what to expect. The cover doesn't do the story justice. Don't be afraid to pick it up because of the cover. You're going to love it if you want a lot of swoon worthy romance and enough action to make you want to pull you hair.  Believe me when I say that. I almost did. *scratches head*

Lily was really enjoyable as a character and loved her way of thinking. She was witty and confident even though she was treated as the freak of her school. She wasn't afraid of what she was and embraced it no matter what anyone else said. I loved J her best friend and her little fashion statements. I wish I had a friend like that! It would be so much fun. It was a relief actually to have such a nice friend for once. Most YA books have their main characters befriended with some really horrible people and I have no idea why. So don't be afraid you're going to love her!

And now to the love interests! Oh Ryder....... what can I say about him? Whatever I say isn't enough. Ryder totally makes my top 10 fictional crushes/love interests. You can't not love him! He has the look of a bad boy, I mean he has a motorcycle and wears leather jacket! That screams bad boy! But behind that look he is so sweet and caring that you can't not just fall for him. Lucian on the other hand is just yummy! I know I shouldn't lust for two boys at the same time but damn was it hard to choose! Now that I think of it I still can't choose.

In this book you don't have your typical love triangle where the girl can't choose between two boys. Instead you have Ryder and Lucian falling for the same girl. Isn't that every girl's dream come true?

**Side Note: Have you read a book with a love triangle between two girls and a boy, where the boy can't make up his mind? Now THAT would be interesting!**

Overall I loved this book and it's now one of my favourite books. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a swoon worthy romance. This book left me breathless and wanting for more.

It's Monday! What are you reading?

I usually don't participate in "It's Monday! What are you reading?" meme for the reason that I read one book a week most of the times and you kind of already know what I'm reading(sidebar). But this time I need YOUR HELP to decide what to read next!

I have two more final exams on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then I'll be free to read more books! Yeah! Isn't it nice to finish your semester in April? Four months of reading before school starts again! :)

So since I still have to study I picked to re-read Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick so I won't be so much distracted as I would be reading something new. And I needed to read it again so I can post a proper review about it. It's been a while since I read it last time.

But the thing is I have not idea what to read next! I am in the mood for 4 certain books but I can't decide and here is where you come to help me. I have a poll on my sidebar with my four choices. Feel free to vote or leave a comment about which book you want me to read first and your opinions about them if you have read them.

The last four books I've read are:
Stargazer by Claudia Gray
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong
HEX, a witch and angel tale by Ramona Wray
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Currently re-reading:
Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

The books I'm considering right now to read next are:
Nevermore by Kelly Creagh
Incarceron by Catherine Fisher
Halo by Alexandra Adornetto
If I Stay by Gayle Forman

Cover Crazy Thursday (3)

Cover Crazy is created and hosted by Tawnil at The Book Worms. Find more information here

Halo (Halo, #1)
Halo by Alexandra Adornetto

Three angels- Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, the youngest and most human- are sent by Heaven to bring good to a world falling under the influence of darkness. They must work hard to conceal their luminous glow, superhuman powers, and, most dangerous of all, their wings, all the while avoiding all human attachments. Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and neither of them is able to resist the attraction between them. Gabriel and Ivy do everything in their power to intervene, but the bond between Xavier and Bethany seems too strong. The angel’s mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening. Will love ruin Bethany or save her?

I love this cover. It's so bright and romantic. I love the way he is leaning back easily and relaxed while there is some eagerness in the girl's posture. The sun that's so bright that hides their faces. The wings are a nice touch. I wouldn't expect that kind of wings for an angel; maybe for a fairy.

Book Review: Stargazer

Stargazer (Evernight)
Title: Stargazer
Author: Claudia Gray
Series: Evernight, book 2
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: 2009
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 329
Source: Bought
My Rating: 4 stars

Synopsis

I kissed Lucas again, more slowly this time. We held each other tighter, and I started to wonder how much closer we could get-and then I remembered what it had felt like when I drank his blood.

The vampire in me was closer to the surface...

Evernight Academy: an exclusive boarding school for the most beautiful, dangerous students of all-vampires. Bianca, born to two vampires, has always been told her destiny is to become one of them.

But Bianca fell in love with Lucas-a vampire hunter sworn to destroy her kind. They were torn apart when his true identity was revealed, forcing him to flee the school.

Although they may be separated, Bianca and Lucas will not give each other up. She will risk anything for the chance to see him again, even if it means coming face-to-face with the vampire hunters of Black Cross-or deceiving the powerful vampires of Evernight. Bianca's secrets will force her to live a life of lies.

Yet Bianca isn't the only one keeping secrets. When Evernight is attacked by an evil force that seems to target her, she discovers the truth she thought she knew is only the beginning...

My Review
In the first book we are left with Lucas leaving Evernight, a school occupied mostly by vampires, because he was a vampire hunter. Bianca is a vampire-sort of.
I put off reading this because I was so mad after reading the first book. I just couldn't believe how Bianca, since the series comes from her point of view, could actually lie about what she is.
During the first half of Evernight you have no idea what is happening and then suddenly we discover Bianca is a vampire, drinking blood from cups all this time.
Nevertheless, I got over it and got my hands on Stargazer because of Lucas. I just had to know more about him! And I did enjoy it!

The first pages seemed to pass really quickly. Bianca in this book wasn't shy at all. In the first book Evernight we begin to know her as a shy girl but a year after, she is more confident and sure about her self and her choices. Things between her and Lucas are hard since she is still in Evernight and he's somewhere else hunting vampires. Even though it seems impossible they still manage to see each other and each time their love grows stronger.

Evernight though is still creepy and holds more secrets, that I thought was possible. I mean, I never saw this kind of twist coming up. The author managed to surprise me once more (in a good way this time) with a  twist in Bianca's life and I was a little bit socked how she managed to join vampires and ghosts into the story.

Lucas and Bianca's moments left me breathless and can't wait to grab Hourglass to see what happens to them next. They have so many obstacles to overcome that I wonder when they'll get a chance just to be.

I liked Balthazar's character growth. We got a glimpse of his life and how he was turned into a vampire. I liked him and it was hard not to route for him, since he has a major crush on Bianca. I loved Lucas, especially when he was jealous. He was irresistible. Lucas did also grow in this book. He learned that not everything around him is white and black, and learned, first to think then to act. Bianca played a huge role there.

Overall, I liked it. Claudia Gray managed to create an eerie atmosphere focusing on the romance and mysteries of Evernight. I would recommend reading this even if you slightly liked Evernight. This book is much better than Evernight and can hope the rest of the books are as good as this if not better.

Top Ten Tuesday (5): Books Covers I wish I Could Redesign

This week's topic:
Top Ten Books Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

My Top 10 Book Covers I Wish I Could Redesign

1) Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Vampire Academy Signature Edition: A Vampire Academy NovelFrostbite (Vampire Academy, Book 2)Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, Book 3)Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, Book 4)Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy, Book 5)
I'm probably one of the few that haven't read these books but just the covers themselves, doesn't make me want to read them. That doesn't mean though I won't read them. I own the first three books so it's just a matter of time. They could have done better.

2) Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

Poison Study (Study, #1)Poison Study (Study, #1)Poison Study (Study, #1)Poison Study (Study, #1)Poison Study (Study, #1)
This book has so many different covers I can't decide which to follow. I like my books to follow the same cover idea in a series. Even though I wanted the last cover here, I ended up with the previous of that. Sometimes though it's hard to maintain a series with a certain cover because most of the time bookstores just carry one type of cover or that cover is discontinued.

3) Night World and Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

Night World No. 1: Secret Vampire; Daughters of Darkness; SpellbinderNight World No. 2: Dark Angel; The Chosen; SoulmateNight World No. 3: Huntress, Black Dawn, WitchlightNight World No. 1: Secret Vampire; Daughters of Darkness; Spellbinder
The Awakening and The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries, #1-2)The Fury and Dark Reunion (The Vampire Diaries, #3-4)

4) Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles

5) Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, Book 1)Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, Book 2)Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, Book 3)Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, Book 4)Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, Book 5)

6) Evernight series by Claudia Gray

Evernight (Evernight, Book 1)Stargazer (Evernight)Hourglass (Evernight)Afterlife: An Evernight Novel

7) Liar Society by Lisa Roecker & Laura Roecher

The Liar Society

I got so excited about this book and was waiting for the cover reveal, imaging something totally different when I saw this. I really dislike this and it would definitely put me off and would think twice about buying this. Of course though, 'don't judge a book from it's cover' it's a phrase I keep in mind.

8) Sticky Fingers by Niki Burnham

Sticky Fingers

9) Strange Angels series by Lilli St. Crow

Strange AngelsBetrayals (Strange Angels, Book 2)Jealousy (Strange Angels, Book 3)Defiance (Strange Angels, Book 4)

I would change all these covers for the exception of the first book in the series, Strange Angels. I could live with that.

10) Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer

The Old Covers (which I love)
Nightshade (Nightshade, #1)NightshadeWolfsbane
hardcover                paperback              paperback

The New Covers (which I would like to change if I could)
NightshadeWolfsbane (Nightshade, #2)
 hardcover              hardcover

Now that they changed the covers what should I do? I have Nightshade in hardcover (the old purple one) and when I'll get the second book in hardcover (I need them in the same format) it won't much the previous book. Only the paperback does.
